Adult Education and Transition Programs
Whether you need to improve your basic skills, get a GED, or obtain a skill for a career, there is a program for you at Kishwaukee College.
The Adult Education Department provides free classes in basic skills, GED preparation, and English as a Second Language. Classes are conveniently located throughout the college district. Free child care with a focus on family literacy development is available at some locations. Our Adult Education counselor is ready to help GED graduates and Advanced ESL students make the transition to college.
In addition to these classes, there are programs that will enhance your employability. Basic Computer Literacy and Math for Employment are free classes offered at the Illinois workNet Center in DeKalb.
Several special programs provide support services to help you succeed in your adult education classes. The Right to Succeed Program helps youth age 16-21 obtain a GED. The Literacy Program provides volunteer tutors to assist in increasing reading and math skills.
Nontraditional students will find many opportunities at Kishwaukee College. As an adult student who has many life experiences as well as many demands on your time, returning to college may pose challenges and barriers. Support services to help you transition and be successful in college are here to help you overcome some of these challenges. Adult Student Connections and WIA Youth Programs are a few examples of transition programs available to help you open that door to real opportunity.
We offer education, training, and support services to individuals facing educational and economic barriers to their transition to college and careers. We strive to engage learners in a supportive environment with flexibility, compassion, and respect. Through our programs and collaborations with community resources, we provide learners with opportunities to gain skills to achieve their goals and sustain enduring success.
