The Kishwaukee College Adult Education department is offering an Academic Reading and Writing class designed for prepare English as a Second Language (ESL) students to transition to college. This class is offered free to participants.

The class begins the week of January 16 in Room C1209 at the College and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30a.m. – 1:45p.m. The class meets immediately following the high intermediate/advanced level ESL class. Students may enroll at the Academic Reading and Writing class site at Kishwaukee College on January 16 and 18 and February 6 and 8.

The Academic Reading and Writing class is open to any ESL student who is age 16 or over and has a score of 211 or more on a CASAS test or any score on a TABE test.

The Academic Reading and Writing class will cover reading and writing improvement; enrolling in college; financial resources; preparation for college-level writing classes; and academic planning. At the end of the semester, students will take the college placement test. In Fall 2018, a free ESL Support Class will be provided for students who place in and enroll in a college-level writing course based on the Accuplacer Placement Scores.

For students who require basic ESL classes, Kishwaukee College is offering a new section of beginning/low intermediate ESL on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:15a.m. in Room B1403 at the College. Enrollment for this class is open on January 16 and 18 and February 6 and 8.

The Kishwaukee College Adult Education department is offering a Bridge to Healthcare Careers class designed for prepare students to take the GED/High School Equivalency exam and then transition into a healthcare career program at the College. The class begins the week of January 16. Students may enroll at the class site at Kishwaukee College on January 16 – 18 and 22 and February 6 – 8 and 12. The College will be closed on Monday, January 15 in observance of Martin Luther King Day.

The Bridge to Healthcare prep class meets from 9 – 11:15a.m. Mondays through Thursdays. The Monday and Wednesday classes will cover Language Arts and Social Sciences and the Tuesday and Thursday classes will cover Math and Science. The Bridge to Healthcare prep class is designed for adults who left high school prior to graduation and can demonstrate a reading and math level of 6th grade or higher on the Test of Adult Basic Education (TABE).

The program will cover preparation in the GED/HSE test areas of Language Arts, Social Sciences, Math and Science. The class will include instruction related to health care careers to improve basic and/or secondary reading, writing, math and critical thinking skills. Students will also explore a variety of healthcare careers and learn about certificate and degree programs in healthcare fields offered at Kishwaukee College.

The Adult Education department at Kishwaukee College offers free high school equivalency preparation and English as a Second Language classes throughout the district. Registration will be held during the first two weeks of class, beginning the week of January 16, and again in the second week of February at the class sites.
