Adult Ed offering ESL academic reading/writing class in January

The Kishwaukee College Adult Education department is offering an Academic Reading and Writing class designed for prepare English as a Second Language (ESL) students to transition to college. This class is offered free to participants.

The class begins the week of January 16 in Room C1209 at the College and meets on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 11:30a.m. – 1:45p.m. The class meets immediately following the high intermediate/advanced level ESL class. Students may enroll at the Academic Reading and Writing class site at Kishwaukee College on January 16 and 18 and February 6 and 8.

The Academic Reading and Writing class is open to any ESL student who is age 16 or over and has a score of 211 or more on a CASAS test or any score on a TABE test.

The Academic Reading and Writing class will cover reading and writing improvement; enrolling in college; financial resources; preparation for college-level writing classes; and academic planning. At the end of the semester, students will take the college placement test. In Fall 2018, a free ESL Support Class will be provided for students who place in and enroll in a college-level writing course based on the Accuplacer Placement Scores.

For students who require basic ESL classes, Kishwaukee College is offering a new section of beginning/low intermediate ESL on Tuesdays and Thursdays from 9:00 – 11:15a.m. in Room B1403 at the College. Enrollment for this class is open on January 16 and 18 and February 6 and 8.
