Definition of a Standing Committee

The following elements describe the characteristics of a Standing Committee:

  • Established by college administration with identified scope and responsibility
  • Considers  issues related to a specific subject area
  • Assigned to VP who
    • provides oversight
    • sits as an ex-officio member
    • receives copies of minutes
    • receives recommendations
    • receives budget recommendations submitted as part of annual budget planning process
  • Meets regularly and records minutes
  • Formulates and recommends policies and procedures
  • Has broad representation from Divisions/Departments with representation approved by Dean or supervisor
    • Committee membership is evaluated annually by Committee Chair
  • Submits copy of minutes to Archives
  • Submits a 2-page report of standing committee activities to VP and copy to Rob Galick by April 30
  • Establishes sub-committees as needed for specific tasks

Current Standing Committees:

A. Institutional Affairs
Ex.: Diversity Committee, Emergency Preparedness Committee, KishConnect Improvement Team (KCIT)

B. Academic Affairs
Ex.: Academic Standards Committee, Assessment Committee, Curriculum Committee, Developmental Education Committee, International Education Committee

C. Student Affairs
Ex.: Student Success Committee

Other Committees

Kishwaukee College also has other committees that serve a variety of purposes in order to address institutional and departmental needs. These committees are assigned to a Vice President/Dean/Department Head for oversight and to receive recommendations. Committee chairs may submit budget requests as part of the annual budget planning process of the Division or Department.

      • Ex. Marketing Committee, AETP Recruitment and Retention Committee
    • Institutional Focus Areas
      • Ex. Events Committee, LGBT Committee, Hispanic Services Committee Safety Committee
  • Ad Hoc Committees
    These committees address specific tasks to be accomplished during a specified time period. The purpose and scope of the committee is determined by college administration. When the goal of the Ad Hoc Committee has been achieved during the specified time, the Ad Hoc Committee will cease to exist.
    • Ex.: Strategic Planning Committee, Diversity Task Force, Stakeholders Committee
  • Advisory Committees
    These committees are established by college administration to study an issue and provide recommendations. Committees may meet regularly or as the need arises.
    • Ex.: Food Service Committee Insurance Advisory Committee, Program Advisory Committees
  • IV. Events Committees
    These committees plan events which are assigned to a department and may become a standard departmental function. Committee chairs may submit budget requests to appropriate Division or Department as part of the annual budget planning process.
    • Ex. Black History Month, Community Resources Fair, Employment Fair, Foundation Dinner, Graduation, open house events
