The Early Childhood Center
The Kishwaukee College Early Childhood Center provides high-quality early childhood care and education for young children and their families. The Early Childhood Center has achieved Star Level Three status in the Illinois Quality Rating System administered by the Illinois Department of Human Services. A Star Level Three rating is awarded to childcare facilities that offer a high level of quality services for children and families.
We believe that young children grow, learn, and develop in an environment where they feel safe, secure, and loved. We believe that a child’s first school experience sets the stage for all later learning, therefore we strive to make your child’s experience with our school a positive one.
We are licensed by the Department of Children and Family Services and a member of Community Coordinated Child Care (4-C).
Who We Serve
We provide care for children between the ages of two and five. Students attending our program are children of Kishwaukee College students & staff as well as community residents. Families DO NOT have to be affiliated with Kishwaukee College to use our program. (More than one-half of our families are “community” families.) Part-time and full-time enrollment is offered to meet your family’s needs.
Our Teaching Team includes dedicated, professionally trained and experienced teachers who use their talents to provide interesting learning experiences in our classrooms and on our playground. With a low child to adult ratio, we are able to provide individualized care and education for the children attending our school. To remain knowledgeable of current approaches in early childhood education, our staff members participate in a minimum of fifteen hours of professional development each year. All Head Teachers, Assistant Teachers, and the Director are certified in CPR/AED and First Aid.
Our daily schedule consists of: Child Choice Time at Interest Centers, Activity Times, Meal Times, Bathroom Breaks, Afternoon Rest Time, Group Times, and Outdoor Play. We provide both spontaneous and planned learning experiences that focus on the total development of each child—helping children to grow intellectually, socially, emotionally, and physically.
Monday-Friday, 7:15 a.m.-5:15 p.m.
The Center is open when Kishwaukee College Classes are in session and selected additional days.
The Center provides Morning Snack, Lunch, and Afternoon Snack for children attending during these times. We participate in the U.S.D.A.’s Child Care and Adult Food Program and all foods served meet federal requirements.
In addition to daily conversations, we publish monthly “Kish Notes” newsletters to keep parents informed with Center and classroom happenings. We also offer Parent-Teacher Conferences each semester.

Recent facilities updates
Recently the Early Childhood Center has been redesigning its playground to offer children many new play opportunities. A Treehouse Climber has been built around an existing shade tree. The Tree House features a double slide, several climbing features, and an inclined ramp. The entire structure is surrounded by a border filled with wood mulch to provide safety to the climber’s users. Other new additions to the playground include a large sandbox with a magnetic wall and an assortment of outdoor musical instruments. In the coming months, the ECC will be installing a new playhouse and garden to extend children’s creative and scientific learning. The Center’s new outdoor environment nicely complements its well-equipped indoor classrooms for children between the ages of two and five.
