Engineering is applying scientific principles to design any number of different types of structures and objects. Engineers have a broad knowledge of physics, mathematical concepts, and properties of a variety of raw materials to create designs that will not only function as proposed, but do so safely.
There are a several specialized fields within engineering. Students in all engineering fields spend the first two years of their program completing a core group of courses: calculus, physics, and engineering statics. Upper-level (junior/senior) coursework is composed of specialization within the field.
The Engineering program at Kishwaukee College was designed to be compatible with the first two years of required coursework at the University of Illinois in Urbana-Champaign and generally will transfer to any engineering program in the U.S. It is recommended that students check with the upper-level institution of their choice to ensure transferability.
