Diversity & Multiculturalism

Kishwaukee College Definition of Diversity

Kishwaukee College recognizes, embraces, and values diversity on its campus. As our campus is a microcosm of the world at large, we understand that diversity is manifested in various forms among our administration, faculty, staff, and students - including (but not limited to) differences of gender, sex, race, religion, age, nationality, sexual orientation, gender identity, gender expression, socio-economic status, and ability. In order to ensure respect for these differences, while at the same time both encouraging their expression and capitalizing on their creative and intellectual value, the following Diversity Plan has been constructed.

Core Values

The scope, direction, and implementation of the plan are centered on the pursuit of seven core values. We, as a Kishwaukee College community, are dedicated to:

  • Creating and sustaining a college climate that recognizes and values diversity
  • Supporting the success of a diverse student population
  • Recruiting, hiring, and retaining a diverse workforce
  • Establishing open and vibrant lines of communication about issues related to diversity, including its recognition, expression and protection
  • Integrating diversity into college curricula
  • Developing and implementing a campus-wide system of responsibility and accountability for the purposes of achieving the goals and action items expressed in this plan
  • Promoting intercultural dialogue and collaborative academic and social experiences
